Murray man charged for shooting dog
Man says he was overwhelmed caring for his son and thought he had to put the dog down

PLATTSMOUTH – A Murray man is charged with animal cruelty after reportedly wounding a dog with a .22 caliber handgun and driving off.
A person fishing near A Street and south Sixth Avenue on Sept. 26 called authorities after he heard a shot and saw a pickup truck speeding away.
An arrest affidavit says 58-year-old Brian Egley told investigators that he was making preparations for the care of his son, who had been in a bad accident. He said the dog typically would jump up on people, but that would not be permissible for the care of his son.
He said he became overwhelmed when he could not find friends or relatives to take the dog and thought his only option was to put the dog down.
