Gunsmithing Proposal Stalls At Auburn
Huntley's request for home occupancy permit to repair guns and authenticate gun transfers fails for lack of a motion
AUBURN – Kyle Huntley’s request for a home occupancy permit in Auburn for gunsmithing and gun sales ended in a misfire Monday.
Huntley told the city council he would like to get the Midwest Rifle Company established at his residence at 1202 11th St. by providing gun transfer services, as well as repair and custom work.
Huntley said he is applying for a federal firearms license.
City Attorney Angelo Ligouri said Huntley’s plans include a retail component in a residential area, so a home occupancy permit is required.
City Councilman Tom Clark said he talked about the proposal with Huntley’s neighbors and said he was asked to oppose the permit.
Kim Beger said Auburn has 26 underutilized storefront buildings and suggested that Huntley would be able to locate there.
Huntley said he is consistently working long hours at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institute, so will not be able to devote the time needed for regular business hours. He said he plans to some day move back to Norfolk and perhaps start a storefront business there.
