Health Board Hears Initial AppleJack Report

NEBRASKA CITY - The Nebraska City Board of Health is scheduled to meet at 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 5, at the Rowe Safety Complex.
At the Sept. 21 meeting, Health Director Grant Brueggemann said 56 percent of the new cases are community spread. He said he expects to stay in Phase 4 until the end of the pandemic.
Police Chief Dave Lacy noted that compliance with the requests for masks and social distancing at the AppleJack Parade was sparse. He said there was better compliance at Arbor Day Farm.
Mayor Bryan Bequette said he believes attendance at the parade was 40 to 50 percent below the attendance of a typical year. Attendance at the car show on Sunday was also down.
Prior to AppleJack, Otoe County had 139 cases and Nemaha County had 115. Two weeks later, Otoe County has 166 cases and Nemaha County has 132.
The positive cases in the district went from 29 the week ending Sept. 19 to 42 the week ending Sept. 26.
The percentage of positive tests has rebounded to pandemic high in the health district.
The percentage of positive tests remained below five percent for the first five months of the pandemic, but rose to 14.6 percent at the beginning of September. The percentage dropped to the five percent range, but has since rebounding to 14.4 percent positives.
The health district reports 164 positive cases in the last 30 days. Nearly 20 percent of those involve children under the age of 19.
