FALLS CITY – A 21-year-old Falls City man is charged with operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest, misuse of a learner’s permit and numerous traffic violations.
A sheriff’s deputy told the court he initiated a Highway 73 traffic stop of a Chevrolet Cruze on Aug. 23 and was approaching the car when the driver, Broderick Smith, accelerated away.
The deputy reported speeds of 115 mph as they approached Falls City and said Smith traveled on Harlan Street at speeds of 90 to 100 mph. He reached speeds as high as 130 mph before crossing into Kansas, where he surrendered to authorities near Hiawatha, Kan.
