United Nation's Green Cities Initiative Invites Arbor Day Foundation To Speak
Arbor Day Foundation President encourages leaders at United Nations to use trees and forestry for healthy cities
NEBRASKA CITY – The Arbor Day Foundation based in Nebraska is presenting at the United Nations General Assembly this fall regarding the global Green Cities Initiative.
Foundation President Dan Lambe said the United Nations recognizes that planting trees and managing forests is about managing health and wellness in the cities.
Lambe: “If ever there was a time for trees, now is that time. The Arbor Day Foundation is working all around the United States and around the globe to encourage and advance best practices in tree care and tree management in natural forests and in cities and towns.”

Lambe said the The Arbor Day Foundation has partnered for the past few years with the United Nations to advance trees in our cities and towns as part of resilient, healthy, thriving communities.
Lambe: “From excessive temperatures, air pollution the global Green Cities Initiative is about challenging cities to embrace trees as a part of the solution to many of the challenges faced in our cities today.”
Lambe said tree planting is also important in areas where forests have been damaged by fires and natural disasters like typhoons.
Lambe: “The Arbor Day Foundation is excited to be a part of communicating how we, based out of Nebraska, can be making a difference in communities around the United States and around the world through the simple act of planting and caring for trees.”
The Arbor Day Foundation announced in February that 59 cities have earned designation as Tree Cities of the World and trees are expected to be a topic of the United Nations roundtable on climate action scheduled Thursday.
