Seven Bands Compete At AppleJack Parade

Lourdes, Palmyra and Conestoga compete for Class C trophy

NEBRASKA CITY – The 52nd annual AppleJack Parade is organized with COVID-19 precautions, but still has nearly 50 entries and seven schools competing in the marching band competition.

The 1 p.m. parade will start with the traditional VFW Color Guard and emergency vehicles at 1 p.m.

Floats being judged include those entered by Lewis & Clark Visitor Center, Arbor Bank, Arbor Lanes, Plattsmouth Harvest Festival and Syracuse Chamber of Commerce.

There are also entries from “Support the Police,” “Patriots for Trump” and “Miss United States Agriculture.”

Congress Candidates Ben Sasse, Jeff Fortenberry and Kate Bolz are scheduled, as well as state Legislature candidates  Julie Slama and Janet Palmtag. Nebraska City Mayor Candidates Bryan Bequette and Tim Morgan are also in the parade lineup.

Nebraska City Public Schools have withdrawn from the marching band competition, but six schools remain.

Competing for the middle school trophy will be Gretna, Aspen Creek Omaha and Lourdes Central Catholic.

For the class C high school trophy, competitors are Lourdes, Conestoga and Palmyra.

Had Nebraska City  entered it would have been the only Class B school to march. Waverly is the only Class A school in the parade.

Judges for the marching band competition are David Clark of Schmitts Music and Emily Bond, band director from Lincoln Christian.
