Nebraska City Pursues Wirth Grant For Baseball, Soccer Field Complex

NEBRASKA CITY – The Nebraska City City Council approved Monday a grant application intended to boost the city’s effort to purchase land for a new sports complex.
Parks Commissioner Patrick Wehling said an application for $300,000 to the Paul, John, Anton and Doris Wirth Foundation would help the city purchase 29 acres for a new, multi-sport complex.

The Kropp Foundation approved $75,000 and Nelson Foundation approved $200,000 for the $600,000 purchase.
Other proposed expenses include $50,000 for preliminary engineering and $2.1 million for development and construction of playing fields. Four soccer fields and four baseball fields are proposed, as well as a playground, concession stand and restrooms.
The city hopes to have the sports complex ready by 2025.
