Auburn Holds On To Demolition Bid For Building Bridgewater Calls Historic

AUBURN – The Auburn City Council is stalling demolition of an L Street building owned by Connie Bridgewater after her attorney came before the city council July 13.
City Attorney Angelo Ligouri told Mattson Ricketts attorney Jacob Garbison that if Bridgewater wants to make necessary repairs, then she is in agreement with the city.
Garbison said Bridgewater believes the building is historic and does not want it destroyed. He said the exact repairs required are not known to Bridgewater, but he said she recently painted the building and removed unsightly logs from the premises.
Ligouri said the city could “hold on” to the demolition bid to see if there is additional progress.
A 2020 letter from the city says foundational repairs are needed to make the building habitable.
The city also heard Brian and Amber Kinnaman’s request to vacate a portion of Ninth Street between P and Q streets.
Ligouri said the street would be needed if there is development in the area.
The city utility had provided Kinnaman notice that some trees had to come down because of their proximity to electrical wires. Ligouri said it is not proper to vacate a street because there are tree issues.
Jeff Jeanneret suggested tabling the issue to explore options discussed at the meeting.
