Man Who Survived Five-Car Crash In 2019 Flood Zone, Suspected Of DUI

NEBRASKA CITY – A Percival man, who was involved in a five-car collision during flooding of 2019, is suspected of driving under the influence on July 12.
The Nebraska State Patrol arrested Vernon Christiansen, 54, on Sunday. He is serving an 18 month probation sentence for attempted possession of methamphetamine. He was arrested on that charge after Otoe County sheriff's deputies searched his camper while it was parked on Fifth Corso in Nebraska City.
Christiansen had been involved in a five-car collision near the Highway 2 bridge in October of 2019.
He was taken by medical helicopter from the construction zone, where crews were working to restore Highway 2 after flooding. Investigators say his pickup ran into a car that had slowed in the construction zone.
