NEBRASKA CITY – Recent cases in Otoe County court charge offenses including assault, firearms and possession of methamphetamine.

Matthew Weant, 26, of Eminence, Mo., is charged with assault on July 3.

Court records say a Talmage man was struck in the head with a tee ball bat after a confrontation with Weant at a rural location near highways 67 and 128.

An arrest affidavit says the alleged victim had been chasing a vehicle out of Talmage, purportedly to retrieve a food stamp card from his estranged wife.

Joshua Smith, 32, of Broken Arrow, Okla., is charged with possession of a firearm by a felon.

He was stopped July 7 by the Nebraska State Patrol on Highway 75. Investigators say a loaded handgun was found in a search of the vehicle.

Jacob Samson, 26, of Nebraska City is charged with possession of meth on April 12. He was arrested after a traffic stop.

An arrest warrant was issued Wednesday for 33-year-old Heath Meek of Nebraska City.

He is charged with possession of meth following a traffic stop on south 11th Street on April 20. The warrant was issued after Meek failed to appear in court.
