PLATTSMOUTH – Cass County sheriff’s deputies responded to a one-vehicle, roll-over accident and fire on Highway 50 Sunday afternoon.

A sheriff’s office press release says authorities received several reports of the maroon SUV being driven recklessly prior to the accident.

The car went into the ditch, rolled on to its top and caught on fire.

The lone occupant, 75-year-old John Hetrick of Omaha, was pulled from the vehicle by several motorists just as deputies were arriving.

Avoca Fire and Weeping Water Fire and Rescue responded and transported Hetrick to Syracuse  Hospital, where he was taken by medical helicopter to Bryan West Hospital in Lincoln in critical condition.

The press release says a medical episode is believed to be the cause of the crash at 3:01 p.m.
