Auburn Council Gives Go Ahead For Pool

AUBURN - Auburn City Councilman Rick Janssen is urging residents to follow pool guidelines for the opening of the Auburn swimming pool.
Councilwoman Katy Billings said city officials went through guidelines with pool staff and credited Janssen for developing a plan to comply with state guidelines for public pools.
Janssen: “I just implore the community to abide by the rules. Some of them you’re not going to like, but we’re going to get through this. We are going to meet two weeks after it opens at the end of June, the first of July to see if anything thing has loosened up.
Janssen: “We could change them. I appreciate everyone’s input.”
Mayor Dan White said the city will fill out an events template with the Southeast District Health Department for the pool and fireworks show.
Mayor Dan White has signed an executive order on April 3 closing certain city facilities due to the pandemic. He said the splash pad and city bathrooms will remain closed.
In other action, the council agreed to prohibit wading in the creek near the recreation complex.
The council approved Bryan and Amber Kinnaman’s request for a new home construction grant at 1604 9th St. The existing house at the location has been removed.
Housing rehabilitation grants of up to 30 percent were approved for Ruth and Randall Lutes on 13th Street and Felicia and Tony Shefferd for their house on 22nd St.
The council approved the revitalization review recommendation for downtown projects proposed by Ruth Heywood.
The city’s housing rehabilitation program allows grants up to $10,000.
The city received a demolition bid for property owned by Connie Bridgewater at 1622 L St. in Auburn. A city building inspector report says the interior of the building is a shell, the exterior walls are dilapidated and there appears no use for the building in the residential district.
The Auburn Library opened last Monday with pandemic restrictions.
