Officer Kneels Next To Protesters In Lincoln

LINCOLN- After hours of a peaceful demonstration, the unexpected happened in Lincoln, Nebraska State Patrol Commander Mike Jahnke knelt beside protesters on the steps of the state Capitol for nine minutes, a solemn gesture that indicates the amount of time a Minneapolis police officer knelt on George Floyd's neck.

 Minutes before, the officers who were protecting the stairs of the Capitol decided to withdraw and enter into dialogue with the organizers.

Protesters began to congregate in front of the Capitol and mobilized to other public buildings to express their thoughts.

One of the speakers at the activity called on people to seek change by voting in elections and running for public office.

They also invited protesters not to repeat the behavior of people who committed vandalism during the past weekend.

At 9 p.m., the time the curfew began, protesters headed back to the Capitol.

A bottle of water was thrown from the crowd towards the area where the officers were. The protesters demanded to remain calm and called to avoid confrontation.
