NEBRASKA CITY - Google News Initiative has recognized Flood Communications’ News Channel Nebraska and Telemundo Nebraska for their local journalism through the coronavirus pandemic.

The initiative supports the production of original journalism for local communities and includes a grant from the Google Journalism Relief Fund.

Flood Communications Founder Mike Flood said News Channel Nebraska and Telemundo Nebraska are committed to providing the most accurate and engaging news content in the state. The Nebraska company’s work was recognized out of 12,000 applications from 100 eligible countries.

Flood Communications CEO Andy Ruback said this Google grant, along with the Facebook Journalism Award received earlier, are a true honor.

Ruback: “Our team has been working around the clock to provide the most updated COVID-19 related news and information for Nebraskans. Receiving this honor, in addition to the Facebook Journalism Project honor our team received a few weeks ago, is a testament to the hard work our staff puts into every broadcast, news article and social media post.”

News Channel Nebraska is the only in-state, independent television network of its kind in America. Telemundo Nebraska is the state’s first network affiliate to deliver live, local Spanish news to Nebraska’s nearly 250,000 Hispanic residents.
