Auburn To Open RV Campgrounds, Ballfields
Auburn grants health district authority over communicable disease directives
AUBURN – The Auburn City Council granted the state health district authority over the control of communicable diseases within the city and voted to open its RV campground.
The one-year memorandum of understanding is between Auburn and Southeast District Health Department.
Under state law, the health department is the lead agency responsible for the protection of the public with respect to communicable disease and the city desires to assist the health district.
The city “agrees to give control over the protection of its citizens against the spread of communicable disease, illness and poisoning to the department.”
The city agrees to assist the health department in enforcement of regulations.
The city council also discussed opening ball fields. Councilman Rick Janssen said the city should wait for the state’s date of June 1.
Council members Chris Erickson and Katy Billings said opening the fields will not be any different than having other areas of the parks open, in the sense that people will be trusted to follow the social distancing outlined by the governor.
Mayor Dan White said he intends to open the RV campground on May 20th. The restrooms and playground equipment will remain closed.
