NEBRASKA CITY - Lourdes Central Catholic High School has hired Mark Madison as the girls head basketball coach for the upcoming season.

Madison, a former Nebraska City athlete and previous assistant for the Knights, has head coaching experience at Waverly and Filmore for six years each. As the coach at Filmore Central, the girls won the 2013 Class C1 district championship.

He also served as a Nebraska Coaches Association Basketball All-Star Coach, as well as numerous seasons assisting football, youth teams, and both boys and girls basketball teams.

Madison played basketball at Doane College, when the Tigers qualified for the National Tournament of Elite Eight and won the NIAC championship.

As a student at Nebraska City High School, Madison participated in football, basketball, and track. He was a state track medalist and earned all-state honors.

A Lourdes Central press release says Madison will fill the role vacated by former head coach, Clay Carlton. Carlton heads to Yutan High School after compiling a 123 and 73 record in Nebraska City.

Lourdes never finished below .500 under Carlton and had back-to-back, 20-win seasons. The school made it to the state tournament for the second time in school history in 2019.

The press release says Coach Madison looks forward to continuing Carlton’s success.

Madison: “I am excited to work with this talented group of athletes and to help make a positive impact in their lives, while striving to help the team reach success on and off the court.”

Lourdes Central Catholic Athletic Director Jon Borer said Madison will bring a unique knowledge of the Knights’ program into the head coaching position after serving six years as an an assistant and working with the youth program.
