NEBRASKA CITY – The state probation office alleges  that 22-year-old Luis Perez of Nebraska City has absconded from probation.

Perez began an 18-month probation sentence in July, but the probation office alleged a probation violation in January and reported April 28 that he has absconded.

The report on Tuesday claims that Perez has been sanctioned 19 times for missing or failing drug tests and he has not had contact with his probation officer since March 16.

Court documents say Perez was sentenced for domestic assault on Nov. 12, 2018.

On April 20, police responded to a report of gunshots fired in the vicinity of 1820 Third Avenue. Officers later surrounded a residence on Fourth Terrace, which was listed as Perez's address in court records produced at the time of his sentencing.

Police recovered shell casings at the Third Avenue scene that appear to support witness reports that shots were fired before four men, including Perez, left the vicinity in a car.

The car was tracked to the Fourth Terrace residence, but no one was found there.

Perez is not suspected of discharging a firearm, but state probation says his whereabouts are unknown.

Police say investigative reports have been turned over to the county attorney's office for possible charges.
