NEBRASKA CITY – In a plea agreement with a Nebraska City couple, child abuse charges last May have been dropped.

Kassie Neeman, 21, and Kyle Haith, 31, were charged after Otoe County sheriff’s deputies served a search warrant at their First Corso residence. An arrest affidavit said a two-week-old infant appeared to be lethargic.

Investigators said the child weighed four pounds and two ounces when the baby was born, but had lost two ounces by the time of the search. The baby was taken to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Lincoln for treatment of malnourishment.

After the child abuse charges were dropped, a district judge sentenced Haith and Neeman on April 6 to 18 months probation on misdemeanor convictions of attempted possession.

Otoe County Attorney Jennifer Panko-Rahe said Monday that the baby is safe and the state continues to monitor the progress of the parenting.
