LINCOLN  - Nebraska Public Service Commissioner Dan Watermeier has been appointed to a federal subcommittee that is working to improve Internet connectivity for US agriculture.

The 15-member Precision Agriculture and Connectivity Task Force has four subcommittees:

  • Mapping and analyzing connectivity on agricultural land
  • Examining current and future connectivity demand
  • Encouraging precision agriculture and high-quality jobs on connected farms
  • Accelerating broadband deployment on unserved agricultural lands

Commissioner Watermeier will serve on the accelerating broadband deployment subcommittee.

He said the subcommittee will be working toward solutions for the agricultural community.

Watermeier: “As a family farmer myself, I understand the needs and frustrations of our rural residents who are struggling with broadband internet issues.”

He is joined on the working group of the Federal Communications Commission by Nebraska farmer Zack Hunnicut, who serves on the governor’s Rural Broadband Task Force.
