AUBURN – The Auburn Bulldogs defeated Ashland-Greenwood to advance to the Class C1 semifinals in the boys state basketball tournament Thursday 54 to 48.

A three-pointer by Cam Binder gave Auburn a 26 to 23 lead at the half and the Bulldogs did not miss a shot in the third quarter to pull away.  Auburn’s biggest lead of the game was 10 points.

News Channel Nebraska sportscaster Eric McKay recaps the game.

McKay: “Ashland-Greenwood able to make it a two-point game, but a great feed up ahead to Dan Frary who had 14 points. Cam Binder seals it at the free throw line and the Auburn Bulldogs win their 34th straight  54 to 48.”

Coach Jim Weeks said Auburn’s record over the past three years is 51 and 3, but one of those three loses went to Ashland.

He said it was a tough opponent in a tough tournament.

Weeks: “Usually the toughest game to win is that first game, so we won the first game. We’re not going to evaluate that first game, we’re just going to move on to the next one.”

Weeks credited Binder for handling the ball for the Bulldogs without a turnover in the game.

News Channel Nebraska named Josh Lambert the player of the game.

The 6’8” senior, who had 14 points, said the team needs to come out to a great start on Friday.

He said the smaller crowd due to attendance restrictions made is easier to hear.

Lambert: “I actually thought they were louder. I could actually hear the fans up there this time.”
