Sasse Calls For Action After Release Of Cyberspace Solarium Commission Report
Nebraska senator supports creation of national cyber director
WASHINGTON, D.C. - US Sen. Ben Sasse joined Senator Angus King and Congressman Mike Gallagher Wednesday in the release of a Cyberspace Solarium Commission report regarding protecting the nation against cyber attack.
Sasse: “Warning lights have been blinking for a long time. China and Russia have attacked the United States in cyberspace, and Washington has been caught flat-footed without a cyber doctrine.
"This report lays out a vision for defending the world’s most advanced digital society through a strategy of layered cyber deterrence. There are a lot of recommendations in here – some of them are great and some of them need more work. This report is the beginning, not the end. Now, it’s time to execute."
Sasse said while the report is only the beginning of cybersecurity, the report proposes layered cyber deterrence to protect the United States.
The report details threats from foreign governments and extremists groups and proposes a public-private collaboration to protect American interests.
Recommendations contained in the report includes establishing a national cyber director, planning for rapid recovery after a major disruptive event and creation of Congressional committees to provide oversight on cybersecurity efforts.
