FALLS CITY – North School’s ROAR program was highlighted Monday at the Falls City Board of Education meeting.

North School is in year two of the implementation of a Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports Program. The national, evidence-based program is intended to increase student achievement, attendance and academic success, while reducing challenging student behavior.

ROAR, which stands for respectful, on task, appropriate behaviors, responsible and safe, is in its second year at North School.

North School faculty members Emily Campbell, Bethany Keithley, Jenny Bauman, Kim Oliver and Troy Nelson provided the board with an overview of the program and observations from year-two.

The faculty commented that the program provides a common skill set for teachers in PreK to second grade.

A school press release says the process focuses on building school-wide, classroom and individual systems of support general enough to assist all students, but focused enough to provide students at risk individual help.

Furthermore, the common language of the program assists in a smoother transition for different locations in the school and from grade to grade.
