AUBURN – A 31-year-old Humboldt woman has been arraigned in Nemaha County on a misdemeanor charge of motor vehicle homicide during the flood detour on Highway 75.

The charge alleges that Rachelle Ellston unintentionally caused the death of 56-year-old George Winchester of Cook when her Ford Expedition collided with a Ford Fusion on Highway 75 south of Auburn on March 21.

Winchester, who was survived by his mother and a son, owned an electrical service company and was a church deacon. Two children riding in the Fusion were not injured.

Prosecutors allege that Ellston crossed the center line prior to the collision. The accident occurred while Interstate 29 was closed due to flooding and there was unusually heavy traffic on Highway 75.
