Falls City Library Ends Fines For Late Material
American Library Association says late fines work against people who need library services the most

FALLS CITY – The Falls City Library and Arts Center board has voted to eliminate late fines for materials.
A press release from the library on Thursday said the patrons are urged to return overdue material and return to using library services.
The library staff will work with patrons to restore borrowing privileges during regular library hours.
The press release says there is a national trend to end library late fines and the American Library Association has claimed that late fines are a form of social inequality. The library association says fines target families that need the library services the most but may be unable to pay the fines.
The ALA passed a resolution last month calling on libraries nationwide to find a way to eliminate fine policies.
The Falls City library reports that collections from late material fines were minimal.
