NEBRASKA CITY   - The Otoe County Sheriff’s Office responded to multiple accidents since the ice and snow arrived on Jan. 10, including a collision Sunday after a semi-trailer jackknifed on Highway 50.

51-year-old Alejandro Ramirez-Santini of Chihuahua, Mexico told investigators the semi-trailer jackknifed on a patch of ice near F Road and he cross into the southbound lane to correct the trailer.

An accident report says, while the truck was in the southbound lane, it’s driver’s side rear axle was struck by a Chevrolet Cruze, also in the southbound lane.

The Cruze,driven by 42-year-old Alisa Knipe of Adams, was spun into the south ditch. The truck remained blocking the southbound lane.

Minor injuries were reported to a passenger in the Cruze, 41-year-old Matthew Knipe of Adams. Syracuse Rescue took him to the hospital.

On Jan. 16, a Honda Accord driven by 31-year-old Luis Vazquez Rodriquez of Rogers, Ariz., told investigators that he slid off of Goosehill Road near Highway 75 and struck a utility pole.

Also Thursday, a Honda compact utility driven by Randy Dunster, 42, of Syracuse slid on ice into an embankment on a private drive near Business 75 at Nebraska City.

On Saturday, a Toyota Tacoma driven by 45-year-old Scott Hestermann of Syracuse slid on Highway 2, entered the median and hit a road sign near Road 14.
