NEBRASKA CITY – A man involved in a five-car collision near the Highway 2 bridge at Nebraska City on Oct. 4 has been sentenced to 18 months probation in a separate case for attempted possession of methamphetamine last April.

Court record say 53-year-old Vernon Christiansen was arrested after an Otoe County sheriff’s deputy served a search warrant for his camper while it was parked at a Fifth Corso residence in Nebraska City.

An arrest affidavit says the deputy found 2.5 grams of meth, numerous syringes, scale and smoking devices.

Christiansen was later taken by medical helicopter from the accident scene. Investigators say his pickup ran into a car that had slowed in the construction zone.

Judge David Partsch also ordered Christiansen to complete inpatient treatment.
