Sheriff Reports On Warrant Arrests In Syracuse

Sheriff says safety of Syracuse residents was his top priority in recent warrant arrests

SYRACUSE - Sheriff Colin Caudill told the Syracuse City Council Wednesday that the safety of Syracuse residents was his utmost priority as agencies served arrest warrants at two locations in Syracuse on Dec. 6.

The multi-agency action included approximately 40 officers in the area at the time. Roadblocks and flash bangs were used, Caudill stated everything was executed as planned. When arrests were made and everything was secured, Sheriff Caudill visited the downtown businesses to ensure the owners of their safety.

The situation was over prior to 7 a.m. so there was no need for the schools to be on lockout. 

The sheriff also reported that calls to the sheriff's office have grown tremendously and he would like to be able to add more staff to cover this area.

The Otoe County Jail holds 21 inmates, but they have had as many as 37 in house,  which requires the county to move inmates to other facilities.

 There was also a fraud issue taking place in Syracuse the individual lost $7,500, Sheriff  Caudill stated this is a larger issue due to the season and individuals need to be very vigilant about giving out  money and personal information.

After the new parking resolution has been signed and in place Sheriff Caudill stated that they have been writing tickets.

At The Parks Department Jill Crook was excited to announce that the stakes have been placed for the fencing of the new dog run located west of the complex the fence will be put in place next week. Also at the sports complex handicap parking spots have been cemented.

Carolyn Gigstad spoke regarding the new bathhouse ,  "We are making great strides and are keeping our fingers crossed for 3 large grants to come in " with construction possibly beginning August of 2020.

 Rescue Squad news,  the new ambulance has been delivered, Syracuse now has three ambulances. The cost of the new ambulance was $190,963.

They will be taking bids for the 2003 Ford ambulance until Feb. 11 at 4 p.m.
