McKISSICK ISLAND  - The Missouri State Patrol reports the drowning death of a 30-year-man Friday in the Missouri River near the confluence with the Nishnabotna River.

A Nebraska Air National Guard helicopter took Benjamin Hirner of Mokane, Mo., to the Nebraska Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

A highway patrol report says Hirner was attempting to retrieve a boat that had gone adrift.

He had been with several other duck hunters at the boat landing near Hamburg, Iowa. A Nemaha County rescue crew attended to another man near the Missouri River bridge at Brownville, downstream from the Nishnabotna.

The second man, who was reported to suffer from hypothermia, was taken to the Nemaha County Hospital.

Hirner was reported missing around 6:30 a.m. and was found at 11:42 a.m. The second man was treated around 7 a.m.

Iowa Department of Natural Resources and Atchison County Emergency Management were asked to assist with the incident, as well as numerous first responders.
