LINCOLN – The Nebraska Department of Transportation emphasized its commitment Wednesday to an expressway in the Highway 275 corridor from Norfolk to Fremont.

The expressway expansion includes 48 miles in four segments that are currently funded for design or construction.

Norfolk to Wisner

Preliminary designs of a 16-mile segment between Norfolk and Wisner are expected to be complete in 2020.

The transportation department is planning to re-apply to the US Department of Transportation’s Better Utilizing Investments Leverage Development grant program.

Scribner to West Point

The road department is working on an environmental impact statement due to wetlands, levees and frequent flooding on the southernmost portion of the project corridor.

A construction timeline of 2021 is proposed.

The project includes a five lane, two way left turn section in West Point.

 Wisner to Pilger

The section is currently funded for design with construction estimated between 2024 and 2033.

The Nebraska Expressway System was created in 1988 to link communities to the Interstate Highway System using four-lane highways.
