HUMBOLDT – Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer’s volleyball team will play their Pioneer Conference rival and top-ranked Diller-Odell in the Class D1 state volleyball tournament today in Lincoln.

The Titans are back at state for the first time since 2010 with a record of 24 and 8 and will try to upset Diller-Odell, which has a record of 33 and 1.

HTRS has only 11 girls on the roster, but  Coach Kara Engles said the team has experience with four-year starter Lauren Nanninga, three-year starter Carissa Allen and two-year starter Katilyn Glathar.

Engles: “These kids have played in big games for us before and it’s really showing this year. The big games we’ve played in, such as district finals, the conference finals and some other big tournament games, those players have really taken on leadership roles. You know, they want the ball when the game is on the line.”

Senior Kylie Kalin has had 69 ace serves and Glathar has been a defensive leader with 88 total blocks.

HTRS played Diller-Odell in the Pioneer Conference championship game. Coach Engles said Diller-Odell  won in the fifth set with aggressive serving.

Engles: “Diller-Odell just served so aggressively that we didn’t give ourselves much of a chance, but since then we’ve been working on that. We know on Thursday, if we want to be successful, we’re going to have to be successful with our serve receive. We’re going to have to be passing the ball well because we have to be attacking on the first ball.”

The rematch is scheduled at 5:30 p.m. today at Lincoln.
