Food Bank of Lincoln Expanding To Nebraska City
Mobile Food Distribution planned the third Friday of each month
NEBRASKA CITY – The Food Bank of Lincoln is expanding its Rural Mobile Food Distribution network to Nebraska City.
The First United Methodist Church, which has operated a food pantry since 1984, will cooperate with the Food Bank of Lincoln for distribution from noon to 1 p.m. on the third Friday of every month.
Food Pantry volunteer Keitha Thomson said the Food Bank of Lincoln will help sustain and expand services in Nebraska City.
According to the annual Map the Meal Gap report, there are over 57,000 Nebraskans in the Food Bank of Lincoln’s service area that face food insecurity. Mobile distribution networks provide nearly 10 million meals a year.
The First United Methodist Church has also provided a weekend Backpack Supply Program for elementary schools.
Thompson: “With the monthly Rural Mobile Food Distribution we anticipate a decrease in use of the local food pantry and we will be able to spend more on the weekend backpacks. And we anticipate it will serve people on fixed incomes who we don’t currently serve.”
An income self-verification sheet must be filled out for USDA products.
