NEBRASKA CITY – Accuweather’s annual winter forecast includes a milder-than-normal start to the season across the northern and central Plain states, but not for long.

Arctic air is expected to surge into the area and Accuweather long-range forecaster Paul Pastelok predicts near normal snowfall.

Last January, the polar vortex unleashed a record cold snap across much of the U.S.

Pastelok says a strong polar vortex this year is likely to trap frigid air in the polar region early in the winter. Pastelok adds that predicting the polar vortex is difficult.

He predicts milder-than-normal weather for early December.
