TECUMSEH – The Johnson County Historical Society is opening a new exhibit Oct. 8 that pays tribute to agriculture and transportation industries.

The new exhibit is housed at a former implement dealership on south Third Street near the museum’s Cornerstone Building.

Society President Sarah Williamson said the acquisition of the building provides space to display many artifacts and honor agriculture as the backbone of Johnson County.

Displays include the essentials of the pioneers that settled in Johnson County in the mid-1800s. A covered wagon that brought the Heinrich Buethe family to Johnson County in 1869 is on display, as well as the millstone from an 1857 flour mill.

Transportation is represented in a one-horse sleigh, reproduction of a gas station and repair shop.

The exhibit will be open during museum hours of 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
