Levee Repairs Expected To Hold, But Crecelius Urges Residents To Review Evacuation Plans
Missouri River expected to crest at nearly 22 feet by Saturday
SIDNEY – Fremont County Emergency management is urging lowland residents to stay alert and review evacuation plans as the Missouri River rises through Saturday.
Emergency Management Director Mike Crecelius said the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have indicated to him that the repairs they have made on the levee will hold at the river’s projected height of 21.9 feet.
Crecelius posted on Facebook, the corps will have inspectors checking the levee and are preparing for any emergency repairs they deem necessary.
Crecelius: “That being said, in the interest of everyone's safety, it would no doubt be a good idea for everyone to have a plan and be prepared to evacuate if our situation in the county changes.”
He encourages people to sign up for Alert Iowa, which will be used if evacuations are ordered.
Flows at Gavin's Point dam were at 60,000 cubic feet per second today. They are expected to rise to 80,000 cfs by Sept. 21.
