HUMBOLDT – After several days of parades, Richardson County fair royalty got a new ride on Saturday for a trip around the Humboldt Square.

The engine that powers the king and queen’s float would not start and even a kick to the tires was ineffective. Firefighters attempted to jump start the float, but ended up loading the whole royal court on fire trucks.

King Bob Bergren said he likes a ride with a siren and Queen Kaityln Glather said it broke the day-to-day parade routine.

The Humboldt Chamber of Commerce named Elaine Burgett woman of the year.

Burgett: How did you become women of the year. “I really don’t know. I think it’s by the members of the Chamber of Commerce. They were looking for somebody and I got a phone call and asked if I would do it. That’s all I know. I didn’t do anything. “

She said having Woman of the Year posted to the side of her car sure makes things different.

Burgett: “We’re farmers out northwest of town here and, you know, we do things with the church and we do things around Humboldt .”

This year’s parade theme was

Woodstock to corn stalks.

Do you know what the theme of this year’s parade is?

“This is. Yeah. Woodstock to corn stalk.”

The parade lineup include entries in the tractor show and plenty of classic cars.
