Judge Denies Groves New Trial

AUBURN – District Judge Julie Smith denied a motion for a new trial  filed on behalf of Wendy Groves, 57.

Groves was found guilty of sexual assault of a child following trial in Nemaha County in June.

Public Defender Keith Kollasch said Groves received a letter after the trial from a Department of Health and Human Services specialist describing the alleged abuse as “unfounded.”

He said had the information been known, Groves would have used the letter for her defense at trial.

Sentencing for Groves is scheduled on Oct. 2.
