Police Investigate Car Attack, Stabbing
NEBRASKA CITY – Police are investigating a possible assault with a motor vehicle and stabbing in the early morning hours on Sunday.
Police have not released details of the incident, but 27-year-old Emmanuel Maxwell of Nebraska City is being held at the Otoe County Detention Center for suspicion of first degree assault, leaving the scene of an accident, and use a deadly weapon to commit a felony.
A witness told police he heard what sounded like a vehicle crash in the Eagles parking lot and could hear a man screaming as if he had been badly hurt. He said he heard someone say "stay away from my wife."
Emergency crews were called to attend to a victim, who appeared to have stab wounds to his arms. The man told police he had been hit by a car in the parking lot and crawled between two vehicles out of fear he would be hit again.
The witness and the victim told police the driver of a Chevy Cobalt got out, found the man between the cars and continued the assault.
The victim, identified in court records as Allen Smith, said he and Maxwell had been in an argument while at Linda Zook’s First Corso residence. Smith said he left the residence walking until he was run down in the parking lot.
Police found the Chevy Cobalt at Zook’s residence, where Maxwell is purported to be staying.
Smith was transported from CHI Health St. Mary’s to a trauma center.
