Sheriff Says Tabor Abduction Reports Are False

SIDNEY – The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office has determined that a child abduction report on May 31 in Tabor was false.
A sheriff’s office press release says interviews and video evidence indicate that no such incident occurred.
The juvenile who made the report has been referred to an outside agency and has not been charged.
A second juvenile, who claimed to be an eye witness, later recanted and told investigators that he supplied officers with false information. That juvenile has been charged with false reporting.
Due to the ages of the parties involved their identifying information will not be released.
The juveniles told authorities that they were approached near the Tabor Library, but fled after a man told him he knew their father and he was supposed to drive them home.
The juveniles gave a description of a vehicle, which led to deputies detaining a man. The man was cleared using vehicle tracking data and a convenience store video.
