State Plans Public Meetings Regarding Bus Route Between Omaha and Lincoln
Southeast Nebraska has two routes available weekly
LINCOLN – The Nebraska Department of Transportation is gauging interest in an intercity bus route between Lincoln and Omaha.
The public is invited to open house meetings at the Greenwood fire hall from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 4, the Lancaster County extension office from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 5 and the Salvation Army Omaha Kroc Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sept. 6.
The proposed project is part of Nebraska’s Mobility Management program and is estimated for completion in spring of 2020.
NDOT transit manager Kari Ruse said a Department of Transportation consultant and University of Nebraska partners would help coordinate transportation providers.
Blue Rivers Public Transportation System, which operates in Gage, Jefferson, Nemaha, Otoe and Thayer counties, already has two intercity routes to Lincoln and Omaha.
A public transit bus departs Auburn and Nebraska City to Lincoln on Tuesdays and Fridays and to Omaha on Wednesdays. Trip routes depend on the needs of passengers, but generally begin in Auburn at 8 a.m. and leave the city at 3 p.m.
