SIDNEY – The Fremont County Board of Supervisors agreed Tuesday participate in a house buy-out program through the Federal Emergency Management Agency for flooded properties.

The program is for houses with so much flood damage that they cannot be repaired.

Fremont County Emergency Manager Mike Crecelius expects at least 26 home owners to be eligible, but the county will proceed on a case-by-case basis.

The county has an interest in homes being rebuilt and placed back on the tax rolls. Such was the case after the 2011 flood when the county participated in a demolition program.

In the demolition program, the government helped remove a damaged property and the land owner could build there again.

In the buy-out program, the federal government would buy the house at its “pre-flood” market value and the county would maintain the land without new construction.
