NEBRASKA CITY –A high-speed chase in southeast Nebraska ended  Sunday afternoon when a woman drove a U-Haul truck into a ditch west of Nebraska City.

Nemaha County sheriff’s deputies began the pursuit after the truck, which was licensed out of Phoenix, Ariz., violated a stop sign.

Speeds were reported at 90 mph prior to the Highway 75 S-curves 12 miles south of Nebraska City. Nemaha County deputies and the Nebraska State Patrol suspended pursuit as the truck headed toward Nebraska City.

The truck crossed town and went around the barricades on 11th Street. The truck crossed the new 11th Street bridge although construction workers were on the scene and the bridge is not officially opened.

Police say the driver slowed for traffic congestion at Kimmel Orchard, but continued across Highway 75 and onto a rock road.  

The U-Haul continued pass Kimmel Orchard and crossed Highway 75 onto the rock road. It went into the ditch around 52 and G roads.

A rescue squad was dispatched for the driver and officers inquired about space available at the Lincoln Crisis Center for mental health. A juvenile was reported to be a passenger in the U-Haul truck.
