Peru Theatre Company is proud to host TheatreMidwest for a FREE performance of Apples in Winter by Jennifer Fawcett on Thursday November 20, at 6pm in Jindra Black Box Theatre. This one-woman play features Nadine Schmidt, a professional actor and theatre educator teaching at Southwest Minnesota State University and is directed by established theatre artist Cory Johnson. Both artists have earned The John F. Kennedy Center Gold Medallion for excellence in theatre and education. TheatreMidwest honors its mission to reduce barriers that prevent people from attending live performances by taking their 6th season on the road. Peru Theatre Company is delighted to host them on the midwest leg of their tour.
Apples in Winter by Jennifer Fawcett introduces the audience to Miriam. Several years ago, Miriam’s son, Robert, committed a horrible crime and has been sitting on death row ever since. As is the tradition, in the waning hours before the end comes, Robert is granted a last meal. This is a play about monsters and the mothers of monsters. And about how we care for each other. And about how to make a really good apple pie.
Following the performance, we invite the audience to stay for a post-show conversation with TheatreMidwest’s creative team and PSC faculty members Danny Hayes, Stephanie Huddle and Stephen Howard. Their areas of expertise in the fields of criminal justice, sociology and literature, will offer unique perspectives to the world of the play.
Prior to the 6pm performance, Schmidt will teach a master class in Shakespeare at 2pm in Jindra Black Box Theatre. Both the 2pm master class, and the 6pm performance are free and open to all. Seating is limited and reservations are strongly encouraged.
