Auburn issues first chicken permit
Ordinance passes on 4-2 vote
AUBURN – Auburn issued its first chicken permit Monday for a 21st Street residence two weeks after passing an ordinance allowing up to four hens.
The ordinance allowing hens and smaller bantams passed July 14 on a 4-2 vote.
Shawn Clark, Nathan Seitz, Brian Lavigne and Johnny Curtright voted in favor. Casting dissenting votes were Tom Clark and Rick Janssen.

The ordinance allows up to four hens in a properly-sized coop. Selling of backyard eggs requires a Nebraska egg number from the state Department of Agriculture.
In other business, the city council gave first reading to a zoning change for property at 1319 26th St. The ordinance would change zoning from medium density residential to commercial residential.
Jeff Jones requested the zoning change saying he owns all the land in block 32, which is zoned commercial residential.
