ODESSA, Neb. -- A young man struck by an SUV on Highway 30 was life-flighted to Good Sam Hospital in Kearney.

Buffalo County and Kearney emergency personnel responded to the call at around 4:30 this afternoon near the intersection of Highway 30 and Daykin Road, around 9 miles west of Kearney and two miles west of Odessa.

Early indications were the 20-year-old had a broken bone near his left eye, an obviously broken left leg, road rash and bleeding from his head and face.

He was reportedly alert and able to answer some commands, although his health is not known beyond those remarks.

A preliminary investigation shows a vehicle with a trailer was broken down on the side of the highway when another vehicle stopped to help. The 20-year-old was one of the people helping when a 64-year-old Elm Creek woman heading west hit the man, according to the Buffalo County Sheriff's Office.

The crash is still under investigation as more details become available.
