FORT MORGAN, Colo. — Two Fort Morgan men were arrested Thursday following a drug investigation that uncovered cocaine sales in local bars and led to the discovery of multiple drugs, firearms, and cash, according to the Fort Morgan Police Department.

Garrett Rivera, 26, and Mateo Araiza, 24, were taken into custody after detectives executed search warrants at their respective residences. Investigators say both men were suspected of distributing cocaine to numerous individuals in the area.

At Rivera’s residence, police recovered cocaine and other evidence of drug sales. Because the home is located within 1,000 feet of a school, Rivera is facing a first-degree drug felony for distribution.

Later in the day, a search of Araiza’s home revealed cocaine, fentanyl, methamphetamine, alprazolam, and oxycodone, along with multiple firearms, bulletproof vests, more than $34,000 in cash, a money counter, and packaging materials used to conceal drug odors during transport.

Due to the presence of firearms, Araiza faces multiple counts of distributing Schedule II substances, a count of distributing a Schedule IV substance, and a “special offender” enhancement, making his charges also a first-degree drug felony.

Both men are being held without bond at the Morgan County Detention Center pending a court appearance.

Authorities say the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are expected. Since January 1, the Fort Morgan Police Department has charged 65 individuals with drug offenses. Officials credit the addition of a dedicated drug investigator in 2025 and strong collaboration between enforcement teams for recent successes.
