HOLDREGE, Neb. — A Holdrege man is behind bars after an overnight standoff.

A news release says officers with Holdrege Police and the Phelps County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a domestic assault in southwest Holdrege. According to the release, investigators believed that 39-year-old Lucas Barrow was armed and had barricaded himself in an apartment. Officers obtained an arrest warrant around 12:30 a.m. Monday and requested help from the Nebraska State Patrol SWAT Team.

The release says the SWAT Team and state patrol crisis negotiators attempted to communicate with Barrow but he he refused to exit the apartment. Hours later, the SWAT Team deployed tear gas into the apartment. Barrow voluntarily left around 5:20 a.m.

Barrow is in the Phelps County Jail on charges of strangulation and third-degree domestic assault.
