Ann Berggren, 90, of Humboldt
Ann Evelyn Bernadette (Carten) Berggren, 90, of Humboldt, Nebraska was born on March 30, 1934, in Boston, Massachusetts to Leo A. and Della M. (Reid) Carten. She attended Boston Public Schools until 1947 when her family moved to New Brunswick, Canada. While living in Canada, Ann attended Fredericton High School in New Brunswick until 1952 when she returned to Boston. She completed her education at Roxbury Memorial High School for girls in Roxbury, Massachusetts.
On October 29, 1953, Ann was united in marriage to Robert Berggren in Boston, Massachusetts. To this union two daughters, Patricia Ann and Barbara Sue, were born. The couple began their marriage living in Ashland, Nebraska from 1954-1966. They moved to Wahoo in 1966, Stromsburg in 1968, and moved their final time to Humboldt, Nebraska in 1970. Ann began working in Humboldt as a cook for the Colonial Acres Nursing Home. She later became the school lunch manager for Humboldt Public Schools in 1972 and worked there until retirement in December of 1987. Ann was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Methodist Women’s Group in Humboldt, past mother advisor for Rainbow Girls, past Matron and member of the Humboldt Order of Eastern Star Chapter #234, and past president and life member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Ann passed away on Friday, February 28, 2025, at the Colonial Acres Nursing Home in Humboldt, Nebraska having reached the age of ninety years, ten months, and twenty-nine days. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Mary, Peg, Christine, and Ruth, and brothers Leo and John Carten.
Ann is survived by her loving husband of 71 years Robert “Bob” Berggren of Humboldt, daughters: Patricia Kanel and husband Jay of rural Humboldt, Barbara O’Connor and husband Jack of Blaine, KS; grandchildren: Jayson Kanel of rural Humboldt, Michael Kanel and wife Kari of rural Humboldt, Kelly Shupp and her husband Jed of Humboldt, Patrick O’Connor and his wife Dom of Blaine, KS; great-grandchildren: Kassidy, Morgan, and Blaine Kanel of rural Humboldt, William and Emma Shupp of Humboldt, Liam and T.J. O’Connor of Blaine, KS; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at the United Methodist Church in Humboldt, Nebraska with Pastor Lori Stevens officiating. Interment will immediately follow services at the Humboldt Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m.- 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at The Wherry Mortuary, 207 N. Nemaha Street in Humboldt, Nebraska. Family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. at the mortuary.
Memorial contributions may be given to family’s choice with a later designation.
