BATTLE CREEK - Not only was it a Mid States Conference contest, but it was also a Class C1 District 8 showdown between Battle Creek and Boone Central on Friday night.

This was the first meeting between the Bravettes and the Cardinals this season. Last year, Battle Creek beat Boone Central in all three matchups.

Neither team set the foundation in the first quarter, with buckets being traded back and forth.

Sami Wemhoff and McKailey Holecek got the scoring started for Battle Creek, while Boone Central's sophomore post Braylee Young had a nice 7 point, 5 rebound stat line in the first quarter.

Leading 10-9 after the first quarter, the Bravettes began to take over in the second quarter. The outside shot became a go-to option, thanks to triples from Jadyn Buckendahl, Wemhoff and Holecek.

Battle Creek extended the lead to 23-12 at halftime.

The Cardinals cut the lead down to 6 in the third quarter as Sienna Borer found success penetrating the Bravette defense, but Battle Creek answered back.

Leading by 10 points in the fourth quarter, the Cardinals fought hard to cut the lead back down to 7, but with time ticking down and no three-pointers made, time eventually ran out.

Battle Creek picked up its 14th win on the season with the 42-34 win over Boone Central.

Jaid Wehrle had a big second half for Battle Creek and finished the night with 14 points. Holecek tossed in 11 points and Buckendahl scored 8.

Boone Central was lead by Braylee Young's double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds in the loss. Sienna Borer scored 12 points for the Cardinals.
