BEATRICE – Beatrice Firefighters were sent to a west Beatrice Agriculture business early Tuesday where a fire broke out in a truck.

Firefighters were sent at 5:19 a.m. to Booth Feeds, near West Scott and South Bell Streets…near the Gage County Fairgrounds.

A feed truck apparently caught fire.  The vehicle was parked behind a business office building and next to a series of feed bins. The fire appeared to be confined to the truck.

A fire captain says the truck engine and passenger compartments sustained an estimated $25,000 in damage.

The cause of the fire was determined to be a malfunction in an engine block heater.  There was no damage to nearby buildings or other trucks and there were no injuries.

The fire, according to emergency radio traffic, was brought under control 15 minutes after the call sending authorities to the scene.   Firefighters departed the area at about 6:45 a.m.
