Lutheran High swept by West Holt in Hartington Holiday Triangular
HARTINGTON - The Hartington Holiday Triangular wrapped up on Monday afternoon with the West Holt Huskies defeating the Lutheran High Northeast Eagles in the girls game 61-24 and the boys game 46-31.
Both teams took part in the triangular on Friday and Saturday, with Hartington-Newcastle being the third member of the tournament.
In the girls game, the offenses started a little sluggish, turning the ball over on opposite ends. The Huskies found their footing as the game transitioned into the second quarter, while the Eagles struggled to maintain possession of the ball on the offensive end.
At the half, West Holt held a 38-10 lead.
The Huskies continued rolling into the second half of the game, led by scorers such as Hollynn Konrad (15 points), Kayli Monasterio (12 points) and Avery Nemetz (10 points).
It was a solid night for the Eagles junior, Liz Chapman, who knocked down four three's, tallying 12 points.
The 61-24 win snapped a three-game losing streak for West Holt, improving their record to 6-3. Lutheran High Northeast falls to 2-8.
The boys game was a similar story, as the 6-0 West Holt Huskies jumped out to an early 24-5 lead over the 6-3 Eagles. Lutheran High Northeast had a difficult time penetrating the pain, and even though they saw good shot selections, the Eagles couldn't capitalize.
The Eagles trailed by as many as 23 points in the second half and tried to make a fourth quarter rally, slicing the deficit to 13 points. West Holt stayed strong and held off the comeback for the 46-31 win.
Lincoln Konrad had one heck of a night for the Huskies, scoring 19 points and tallying 10 rebounds. Andrew Rentschler tacked on 10 points for West Holt as they improve to 7-0 on the young season.
Cole Lawless added 11 points for LHNE, while Gavin Feddern scored 10 in the loss. The Eagles 4-game winning streak comes to an end, dropping their record to 6-4.
